First, identify what is not working
The link does not open. The URL may be incomplete, expired, mistyped, or blocked by an app or browser. Compare its domain with the company’s official domain before doing anything else. A lookalike domain is a reason to leave, not troubleshoot.
The link opens but no offer appears. The company may record the referral quietly during signup, limit the offer by location or account type, or no longer offer the same terms. Read the landing page and current program terms rather than relying on the person who shared it.
The code is rejected. Check for copied spaces, similar characters such as O and 0, the correct code field, and whether the account has already passed the point where a code can be entered.
The code was accepted but no reward appeared. Acceptance is often only the first step. A purchase, deposit, receipt, verification, installation, or waiting period may still be required. Use our missing or pending referral bonus guide for that situation.
Run these checks before trying another code
- Confirm the destination. Use the company’s real domain and HTTPS. If the referral opens inside an app, compare the app publisher and destination with the official listing.
- Check account eligibility. Many referrals are for new customers only. An old, closed, duplicate, team, or previously installed account may not qualify.
- Find the right entry point. A referral code, promo code, gift code, and account invitation can have different fields and rules. Our referral codes versus promo codes guide explains the difference.
- Review the timing. Some offers must be attached at signup; others remain available only until a first purchase, trip, receipt, or deposit.
- Read the qualifying action. Minimum values, eligible transaction types, deadlines, verification steps, returns, and cancellations can all matter.
- Reduce tracking interference. If the company instructs you to start through a referral link, finish in the same browser session when practical. Privacy tools, disabled cookies, another referral, or visiting a different offer page may replace attribution.
Do not create duplicate accounts to retry
A second account can violate program terms and may make both accounts ineligible. If an existing account cannot accept a referral, use the company’s support path instead.
What official program guidance shows
Programs differ, and promotions change. These examples were checked against official US help pages on September 12, 2026.
Fetch
Fetch says a referral code must be entered before the new user submits a first receipt. The new user must then snap a qualifying receipt; entering a code alone does not complete the referral. Fetch also lists an incorrect code and an account that already submitted its first receipt as common reasons points do not appear. Official Fetch code instructions and referral troubleshooting.
Dropbox
Dropbox requires the invited person to follow the referral invitation, create an account, install and sign in to the desktop app, and verify their email. Existing accounts, team accounts, or a signup completed on a previously used computer can be ineligible. Official Dropbox referral guidance.
Chime
Chime’s standard referral program uses a personal link and has time-sensitive qualifying steps. Chime says a person who opened an account without using the link cannot add the referral afterward. Current requirements and reward amounts can vary, so use the offer displayed in the app. Official Chime referral overview and link troubleshooting.
Coinbase and Rakuten
Coinbase says eligible referrals must begin through the referral link and meet the offer’s specific criteria; purchase type and deadline can matter. Rakuten similarly requires a new member to join through the unique referral method and complete a qualifying Cash Back purchase in the applicable period. Official Coinbase referral help and official Rakuten referral terms.
Know when another code will not solve it
A different code usually will not restore eligibility after the required signup path or first-use milestone has passed. It also cannot override a location restriction, account-type exclusion, referral cap, or offer deadline. Repeatedly switching links may replace the original attribution without fixing the underlying problem.
If you have not signed up yet, return to the official offer terms and begin from the intended referral entry point. If you already signed up, check whether a referral code can be added after signup before taking further action.
Prepare a clean support request
- The referral link or code, with private account details removed.
- The date, time, device, and app or browser used.
- A screenshot of the offer and any rejection message.
- The signup date and qualifying action, transaction, or verification date.
- The status shown in the company’s referral activity area, if one exists.
Contact the company through its official app or help center. Everette Affiliate can help visitors discover submitted referrals, but it cannot see provider attribution, change eligibility, or issue rewards.
